Rules of Techniques
1. Letters selection
The prototype style of letters should be selected from one of the traditional English fonts, scripts, handwritings or calligraphies. Uppercase and lowercase letters are identified as different components (or radicals). But there are not distinctions in the position. You can use either of them to build up VEC freely.
2. Size and shape of the letters
You can enlarge, reduce, twist, rotate or extent the letters and the strokes to make a harmonic pattern distribution with same or different weights. Because the letters are individually applied, you could easily assemble them to match your needs. It is particularly useful in making a balance and getting the artistic level of VECs. Pictorial character is capable to development by means of slight variation of the components. However, the letters should be readable individually without any confusion.
3. Letters spacing
The individually applied letters enable you to adjust the spacing either by opening out the letters or having them very close. You can also join the letters, combine or overlap the strokes if necessary.
4. Alignment
Normal typography and lettering place all letters on a common baseline they are aligned. VEC permits you to offset the letters by stepping up, down or shifting with some angle. But the letter's sequence should keep in series except for the case of same letters, so that the words could be recognized without any difficulties.
5. lnterlocking
Usually, each letter occupies its own space and the gaps between letters are constant. VEC allow you to interlock the letters into one another's space. It is critically important to set up the relationship of the letters for creating a "whole-word" charater.
Technical strategies
1. Juxtaposition
VEC permits the same letters to be juxtaposed in some cases. This strategy is rational, since there are no any problems to recognize the word within this definition.
2. Ideograph
It is work of art to build up VECs. There are some ideographic characters could be invented if you are lucky. For example, a smiling face was built up by the word of "good" and gymnast was created from the word of "art". In general, the ideographic words have lost their direct reference to an object in the real world and become to represent an abstract concept to which the shape of the ideograph associated.
3. Substitution
You need not only use the alphabetic letters. Interesting ideas can be expressed by inserting other elements into the words, such as numerals, punctuation marks, math, accounting and science symbols.
4. Abbreviation
You could use standard abbreviation or shorthand to build up VECs. This strategy is helpful to build up long English words.
You could freely build up VECs using the rules and strategies above with one of five type structures. But the criterion is that the components of the letters and the words should be readable . Any kinds of confusion should be eliminated when you create a new VEC.
